Hillsboro Health Foundation hosted its 27th Annual Valentine’s Gala on Saturday, drawing nearly 400 guests for an evening themed “Hollywood Nights.” The annual fundraiser brought together community members, businesses and volunteers to support ongoing expansion and modernization projects at Hillsboro Health.
More than 25 celebrity waiters served tables throughout the night, and close to 30 volunteers assisted with activities including a Gucci purse raffle, red carpet photos by Amy Roseland Photography, a gun raffle and a golden envelope gift card pull. A silent auction ran through the evening, but the highlight was the live auction led by Kurt Aumann of Aumann Auctions in Nokomis. Live auction items included a trip to Ireland, an Alaskan cruise, silver bars and coins, concert tickets, rare bourbon and other packages. Attendees also enjoyed dancing with live music from the Kim Kelly Orchestra of Dayton, Ohio.
Early totals show the gala has raised $280,000 so far, and an anonymous donor has pledged to match all funds raised to double the amount. Sponsorship support and donations from local and regional businesses contributed to the fundraising total as well.
“It is incredible to see this community come together in such a meaningful way,” said Michael Alexander, Hillsboro Health president and CEO. “The generosity shown at this year’s gala moves us significantly closer to improving the care and experience we provide for our patients.”
Proceeds from the event will help fund several major construction projects at Hillsboro Health, including an outpatient surgery replacement wing, central utility plant, front lobby renovation and a new patient drop‑off canopy.
The Foundation also used the gala to launch an engraved brick and paver campaign, which will run through May. The fundraiser received an early boost from the Hillsboro Health Auxiliary, which contributed $50,000 to kickstart the effort. Founded in 1950, the Auxiliary has long played an essential role in supporting patient care services and helping enhance the hospital’s facilities.
The bricks and pavers will be installed near the hospital’s front entrance, with completion estimated for spring 2027. Individuals, families or businesses may purchase a brick for themselves or in honor of a loved one.
Donation levels include $250 for a 4x8 brick, $1,000 for an 8x8 brick, $2,500 for a 12x12 limestone paver and $5,000 for a 16x16 limestone paver. For more information, contact Diane Clark at dclark@hhealth.us or 217-532-4187.
