Hillsboro Health
Hillsboro Health is excited to announce the acquisition of Rehab Edge Physical Therapy of Hillsboro, further expanding its commitment to exceptional rehabilitation care for the community. As part of this transition, Hillsboro Health welcomes physical therapist John Mekala, to the Hillsboro Health Therapy Services team.
Mekala brings more than 31 years of experience providing physical therapy treatment in the Hillsboro area.
“By welcoming John and his patients to Hillsboro Health, we’re combining trusted experience with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure our community has access to high-quality therapy services close to home,” said Hillsboro Health President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Alexander. “We want John’s patients to know they are valued and will continue to receive the same great care to which they are accustomed.”
“I want to thank the community for supporting my business for 21 years by word of mouth,” Mekala said. “I pride myself on having a business model that succeeded in a small, rural community. Given the changing landscape of health care and economic pressure, this move was the most sustainable way to continue treating patients,” he added.
Mekala thanks Alexander and Hillsboro Health Director of Therapy Services Abby Bugg for giving him the opportunity to continue his career with dignity and grace.
The new Hillsboro Health Therapy Services building, located at 1200 E Tremont St., Suite 100, just east of the main hospital on the Hillsboro Health campus, will begin seeing patients on December 9. Mekala will officially start seeing patients at the new location in January 2026.
The Hillsboro Health Therapy Services team currently provides a wide range of care, including outpatient adult and pediatric physical, occupational, and speech therapy, aquatic therapy, pelvic floor treatment, and inpatient rehabilitation. The team is excited about this new chapter of growth and looks forward to continuing to serve the community with expanded resources and expertise.
To celebrate the opening of its new building, Hillsboro Health Therapy Services will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, December 12, from 4–6:30 p.m. Community members are invited to tour the new facility and enjoy light refreshments.
