Hillsboro Health announced that its hospital gift shop, operated for years by the Hillsboro Health Auxiliary volunteers, will permanently close December 31. The gift shop will host a clearance sale December 9 &10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All items will be 50 percent off. The gift shop is located in the Hillsboro Health Fitness & Aquatics lobby.
For decades, the gift shop has been a staple of the hospital, offering convenience and comfort to patients, visitors and staff. Auxiliary volunteers have dedicated countless hours to its success, with Patty Cady and Lori Brown leading efforts in recent years. Funds raised through the shop have supported scholarships for students pursuing nursing careers, helping strengthen the local health care workforce.
The shop’s roots trace back to the 1990s when Sheila Callahan, Nena White, Brenda Byers and Susie Galer launched the venture during the height of the TY Beanie Baby craze. Their creativity and commitment generated significant revenue that continues to sustain the auxiliary today. Callahan, who has since passed away, and her fellow founders are remembered for their vision and community spirit.
“We are proud of the time we’ve spent serving alongside a dedicated group of volunteers and supporting such a worthwhile cause for the hospital and scholarship recipients,” said Patty Cady. “It has been an honor.”
Hillsboro Health expressed gratitude to the volunteers and the community for decades of support.
